What is the Appeal Committee and what does it do?

The Appeal Committee administers the Amnesty International Australia Appeal Policy and Procedure. This policy applies to any person who has been personally affected by processes, outcomes and decisions under AI Australia's policies other than those in relation to staff and management issues.  

The Appeal Committee comprises two eligible members of AI Australia, usually elected by the Annual General Meeting for a period of two years. However, the National Board may appoint candidates to these roles when there is a vacancy.  

There is currently a vacancy that can be appointed by the Board.  

Job Description

Please nominate if you are an eligible member and you: 

  • have demonstrated experience in investigating complaints, gathering and evaluating evidence and arriving at sound, dispassionate and balanced judgments; 

  • have experience mediating or resolving disputes;    

  • and have not recently (within the last 6 months) held or do not currently hold board, board committee, staff positions or other elected roles within AI Australia (such as being a member of an Activism Leadership Committee).
